How to Create Your Purpose , Instead of Waiting to Find It !
Most people spend their lives trying to “find their purpose.”
But what if you didn’t need to find anything?
What if you could create your purpose deliberately, powerfully, and on your own terms?
At a recent Unlocking Productivity Masterclass, someone asked me:
“How do I stay motivated long-term?”
My answer was simple:
“When what you're creating is so exciting, you don't need an alarm to wake up.”
That’s the shift. You don’t stay motivated by waiting for inspiration, you stay motivated by creating something that matters.
And that begins with this mindset:
You don’t need to find your purpose. You can create your purpose.
Why You Should Stop Searching and Start Creating Your Purpose
We’ve been sold a myth that purpose is buried treasure hidden somewhere in the jungle of life, waiting to be discovered if we dig hard enough.
But here’s the truth:
Creating your purpose means making intentional choices that align with what lights you up and serves others.
It means taking ownership.
If you’ve ever asked:
“What is my purpose in life?”
“Why can’t I stay motivated?”
“What am I really here to do?”
Then you’re ready for a better question:
What kind of purpose do I want to create?
What It Actually Means to Create Your Purpose
Creating your purpose isn’t one big decision. It’s a practice. It’s built, not found.
That means:
Taking action before you feel ready
Noticing when you feel most energized and most drained
Experimenting with projects, roles, and ideas
Being willing to fail, recalibrate, and try again
When you stop waiting for clarity and start building it, you shift from passively searching to actively leading.
That’s the beginning of everything.
Use the Purpose Triangle: Passion × Skill × Demand
If you want to create a purpose that’s sustainable not just emotional, you need a framework.
I use something I call the Purpose Triangle.
Purpose = Passion × Proficiency × Demand
Here’s how to break it down:
Passion: What do you care about enough to suffer for?
Proficiency: What are you uniquely good at—or willing to master?
Demand: Where is there real need or desire in the world?
When you align these three, you stop asking what your purpose is—and you start living it.
A Simple Exercise to Create Your Purpose This Week
If you're not sure how to create your purpose, don’t overthink it. Start with movement.
Here’s what I recommend:
Step 1: Download the worksheet here
This is the exact tool I use with clients inside the Reforged Leader program.
Step 2: Block two 15-minute slots in your calendar this week
One to complete it. One to reflect on it.
Step 3: Ask better questions
What would I do if I didn’t need permission?
When do I feel most energized?
What are people already asking me for?
What comes naturally to me that others find hard?
That reflection will give you signal. Your job is to listen.
Why Motivation Follows Purpose (Not the Other Way Around)
Most people wait for motivation. But if you’ve created your purpose, you don’t need it.
Purpose doesn’t drain you—it fuels you.
I’ve seen it in my own life, and in the lives of dozens of high-performers I’ve coached:
“When you create your purpose, your purpose gives you energy.”
You don’t need more hacks. You need more alignment.
That’s what we build during Month 3 of the Reforged Leader journey.
We don’t just define your North Star—we design the habits and systems to live it.
Action > Clarity: The Truth About Purpose Creation
If you’re waiting for clarity, here’s your truth:
Clarity doesn’t come first. Action does.
Waiting until you’re clear is the perfect way to stay stuck.
The people who build meaningful lives aren’t the ones who had the clearest plans at the start. They’re the ones who were brave enough to begin, messy, unsure, and still in motion.
So if you’re thinking:
“I don’t know what my purpose is”
“I don’t feel ready yet”
That’s your cue to start. Not to wait.
You Are the Author of Your Purpose
You don’t need to find your purpose.
You don’t need to wait for the “right moment.”
You don’t need another year of burnout and boredom.
You can create your purpose, with vision, intention, and consistent, courageous action.
And if something inside you stirred while reading this, discomfort, curiosity, or a quiet yes-don’t ignore it.
That’s your deeper self calling you forward.
You don’t need permission to become who you were meant to be.
You just need to start.
And if you want a guide on that journey, I’m here.
